Food ordering is all handled for the driver by UberEats, so the driver simply goes into the restaurant, picks up the food, and then drives to the customer’s location. A Day in the Life
Most UberEats drivers are also UberX drivers, though the requirements vary by market. In some markets, UberEats orders are given to drivers making UberX trips when food orders are nearby drop-off or pick-up locations. In other locations, UberX drivers are not allowed to make food deliveries and rideshare trips during the same shift. In other markets, UberEats drivers may not be required to also work as UberX drivers.
UberEats drivers perform the same basic responsibilities as drivers for other popular food delivery services like Postmates or GrubHub. They accept orders through the UberEats driver app, navigate to the restaurant the customer ordered from, pick up the food and make sure that it is correct, and then deliver the food to the customer. In some markets, only curbside delivery is available, meaning the customer must meet you outside. In other markets, you deliver the order to the customer’s door.
For drivers that work for both UberEats and UberX, responsibilities for both positions may be required concurrently during a shift. Drivers may alternate between picking up and dropping off customers and picking up and dropping off food. Like the UberX app, the UberEats app does not allow customers to enter a tip, so all tips, if received, are in cash.
Typical Work Schedule
UberEats drivers set their own schedules and are able to work day, evening, and weekend shifts. They schedule the shifts they want to work either in advance or the day of deliveries.

How To Become an UberEats Driver
The requirements for becoming an UberEats driver depends on the market-specific Uber requirements for your area. In some markets, UberEats drivers must be existing Uber drivers. In most markets, drivers must be at least 21 years-old, have a valid driver’s license, a car less that’s approved for the market, and in-state registration and auto insurance. Additionally, UberX drivers must have a clean driving history and pass a background check. Once a driver is approved for UberX, he can also apply for UberEats.
In markets where it’s not required to be an UberX driver to deliver for UberEats, drivers can simply apply online for UberEats driver positions. No formal education or experience requirements exist. Drivers will need to pass a background check and a vehicle inspection—most markets have strict requirements on the types of vehicles allowed to be used for deliveries. Drivers may also need to submit proof that their cars are registered in the state in which they’ll be delivering and must present proof of insurance.
After submitting all required documents and passing the background check and vehicle inspections, drivers must attend short orientation and onboarding sessions. After that, they’re set to start picking up shifts and making deliveries using the UberEats driver app.
