Why The Project?
We want to help millions of people go back to school who’ve been unable to take that first critical step. We believe in the value of higher education and the institutions of learning in our country. However, university and college education can still be too expensive and unapproachable for the majority of Americans. Normal distractions of work, bills, and home life often prevent someone from being able to dedicate the appropriate time and money to a traditional 4-year degree program. This has led to a rise in new marketplace offerings which attempt to bypass traditional universities completely…we think that’s a problem and unnecessary. Our solution addresses the issues of higher education’s accessibility and affordability and keeps students on a proper collegiate path.
Participating Institutions
Student Debt…THE Crisis of our Time
Student debt has now reached a level of epic proportions. At $1.34 Trillion in the United States alone, it’s larger than both Auto and Credit Card debt. It places a crushing burden on young learners, and often prevents working adults from getting the modern skills and education they need to improve their livelihood. We’re working tirelessly to alleviate that burden and help people get years back from their lives. It means someone could buy a home sooner, spend more time with family, or pursue the job of their dreams rather than working any job to meet their debt payments.
"Rather than making marginal progress in higher education's quality, we need to be making radical progress on its accessibility."
World-Class Education, 100% Tuition-Free.
We are empowering millions of Americans to become whatever they want to be…tuition-free. Charging tuition limits people’s access to education. We’ve decided on a bold path to look outside of the tuition paradigm to ensure we don’t exclude anyone from participating…and we’re not going to compromise on that. Instead, we’ve sought out other common methods for startups to keep the lights on without charging students or sacrificing educational quality. Our platform will be supported through the help of advertisers, sponsorships, a marketplace for tutoring, and other future avenues yet to be explored. By removing barriers and focusing on world-class education, OnlineDegree.com is enabling everyone to take the critical first step towards full-time education at a university.
We Support The Open Source Learning Movement And Open Educational Resources
We firmly believe in the benefits of utilizing open source or Open Educational Resources (OER) for students. By using OER in higher education, student’s costs of learning are kept to an absolute minimum. OER has given OnlineDegree.com the ability to achieve it’s goal of making the offering completely free for students, and sets of a positive example to encourage the adoption of these materials worldwide.
11 Courses, 1400+ Universities & Colleges…and Growing.
We currently offer 11 College-level courses including Robotics, Computer Science, Psychology, Business, Public Health, History and many more, giving students a wide breadth of options in pursuing the coursework of their interest. With pathways for potentially receiving credit at participating accredited universities or at over 1400 universities and colleges in the NCCRS network, we’re making our mission of affordable higher education a reality.
